Putnam Investments Adds Three Industry Veterans to Retirement Sales Team

Ongoing expansion of sales desk to support DC-focused advisors, consultants, and platforms

As part of a continuing effort to recruit and retain some of the best talent for its retirement services organization, Putnam Investments today announced that it has hired three highly-regarded industry veterans for senior positions in defined-contribution sales and client relations. All three hires are new positions created to support further expansion of Putnam's retirement business.

David Scheetz and Edward Deeds have joined the firm from Bank of New York Mellon and ADP Retirement Services, respectively, and serve as Regional Defined Contribution Directors, focused on growing the sales of Putnam's full-service 401(k) among advisors. Both report directly to Putnam Investments Defined Contribution Advisor-Sold National Sales Manager James Brockelman.

Additionally, James Axford, formerly with Pioneer Investments, has been named Defined Contribution Consultant Relations Manager, and will work closely with advisors, consultants, and recordkeeping platforms nationally to support the sales of Putnam's investment-only retirement business. Axford reports to Peter Whitman, Putnam Investments Head of Defined Contribution Investment Only.

"As Putnam expands its footprint among defined contribution advisors and consultants, our platform is attracting highly skilled and knowledgeable professionals to align with the needs of our clients," said Edmund F. Murphy, III, Head of Defined Contribution, Putnam Investments. "Dave, Ed and Jamie each bring nearly 25 years of industry experience to Putnam and are expected to even further strengthen how we serve the marketplace."

Murphy added that the firm will continue to seek top-flight industry talent in step with Putnam's ongoing build-out of its retirement business.

Before joining Putnam, Scheetz was responsible for Bank of New York Mellon's Defined Contribution Investment-Only business in the Mid-Atlantic and had worked extensively with full-service plan sales, including experience with Prudential Retirement and Merrill Lynch. Based in Richmond, VA, he will be responsible for Putnam's Mid-Atlantic region of Maryland, District of Columbia, Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee.

Deeds had previously served as a Regional Sales Manager for ADP Retirement Services, overseeing a team of regional sales representatives. He is based in Cincinnati and will be responsible for expanding Putnam's advisor relationships in Ohio, Michigan, Western Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Indiana.

Prior to Putnam, Axford was a Senior Vice President, Director, within Pioneer Investments' Investment- Only Retirement Group. Earlier, he gained experience in sales and relationship management at a number of leading firms, including MassMutual Retirement Services, Russell Investment Group, and MFS Investment Management.
